DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT

About the position

Art with a Heart’s advancement and fundraising efforts support the overall mission and work of the organization. As our Director of Advancement, reporting directly to AWAH’s Executive Director, you will be responsible for the administration, operation, and management of our fundraising efforts, special events, and appeals. You will also be responsible for cultivating and maintaining individual and corporate donors and sponsorships along with growing our grant database. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics: 

  • A keen interest, genuine passion for, and deep personal commitment to AWAH’s mission. 
  • Five or more years of relevant work experience, with a bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate difficult decisions. 
  • A self-starter who possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. 
  • Ability to remain focused, transparent, and tactful while exercising solid judgment, especially in high pressure situations. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities. 
  • Technical skills should include proficiency with Microsoft suite, Google suite, Adobe creative suite and experience with or willingness to learn other software and systems necessary for the role.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

You will collaborate with the Executive Director and Board on the following specific duties and responsibilities: 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to secure new financial support for the organization, including cultivating donors, writing grants, charitable campaign applications, annual appeals, and/or organizing fundraisers and marketing campaigns. 
  • Communicate the organization’s mission, goals and operational plans to all levels within the organization, to the broader corporate and philanthropic community and to individual donors. 
  • Contribute to strategic and tactical development and marketing planning. 
  • Assist in the preparation for and participate in the solicitation of individuals, to include in person meetings. 

Fundraising and Communications 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to develop and implement fundraising and marketing strategies. 
  • Manage and coordinate corporate, foundation, and individual fundraising efforts including new funding research, proposal development and grant reporting. 
  • Partner with Art with a Heart staff to develop and implement social media and public relations strategies. 
  • Update databases and communications with new donor and constituent data. 
  • Manage communications and marketing materials for Art with a Heart grant-makers, donors, and sponsors. 
  • Act as organizational ambassador during community service events, corporate functions, fundraisers and networking events. 
  • Along with the Office Manager and Administrative Coordinator, ensure the donor database is maintained and current. 
  • Manage donor relations and prepare for grant-maker site visits.
  • Public Relations
  • Manage and gather stories for and assist with writing the monthly newsletter, in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator.
  • Manage meetings, scheduling, and outreach with new and potential partners and donors as well as press packets for scheduled events.
  • Represent Art with a Heart in public engagements, community meetings, and events, as needed. 
  • Coordinate, plan, and supervise special events, as needed.
  • Technical Skills:  Microsoft and Google suites
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Constant Contact, DonorSnap, Photoshop, WordPress.
  • Facility with Apple products.

PART-TIME TEACHERS, ASSISTANT TEACHERS AND SUBSTITUTES

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students and groups of students in planned, interactive, hands-on visual art classes.
  • Facilitate and/or assist art instruction as directed by the Art with a Heart curriculum.
  • Establish classroom protocols and expectations.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled classes and ready to work.
  • Be culturally sensitive, compassionate, and able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Motivate, encourage, and assist students in the process of creating art.

INTERNSHIP

Desired Skills and Characteristics

Art with a Heart interviews and selects interns each semester for one of the following positions. Interns work directly with Art with a Heart staff, volunteers, assistants, and teachers in preparing for and delivering art classes to the community, assisting with community service projects and large scale public art pieces, supporting the workforce development program, working in Art with a Heart’s store (HeARTwares), and general program and office administration.

All Art with a Heart Interns should have a keen interest and personal commitment to Art with a Heart’s mission, possess personal qualities of commitment, integrity, and sensitivity to the needs of others, be culturally sensitive and able to work effectively with diverse groups of people, have college-level coursework in visual arts, education, social work or family studies fields, exhibit a positive attitude, be mission-driven, self-directed and possess the ability to thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather supplies in preparation for projects
  • Create sample projects/products and steps for instruction
  • Provide motivation and tips to volunteers, students, and participants
  • Assist with clean-up and return of supplies
  • Answer and greet visitors at the door and answer phones as needed

All internships at Art with a Heart take place in the office and/or in the field.
