From Learning to Teaching: A Full Circle Story

March has arrived! That means birds chirping, spring showers, and another Art with a Heart anniversary! Let’s take a moment to reflect on the past month and the journeys we’ve taken to get us to this celebration of 21 years.
I can’t help but be reminded of the obstacles we have overcome as an organization, and more personally, those I’ve overcome as an individual. My journey to becoming a part of the Art with a Heart family is one filled with its own sense of disparities and obstacles. Being introduced to the space first as a client of the HeARTworks program gave me a chance to feel inspired and empowered- not only as an artist, but as an individual who felt down and out. My time with HeARTworks gave me a set of skills that I can employ and strengthen everyday; that in itself was the most invaluable step to propel me to a new place of perspective. Today, in my position as a full fledged member of this family and team, I’m able to use each and every lesson to benefit not only our organization but each individual I come in contact with. That is another gift I’ve been provided: the space to grow and nurture my skills for our organization and its mission.
I couldn’t thank this place enough for existing and for inspiring me to grow into the position I occupy now. Throughout my last few years, I’ve facilitated workshops, led classes, and trained apprentices. My skills have multiplied and Art with a Heart allows me the opportunity to grow professionally and confidently.
